 Calling all Golf Lovers

This was a fun birthday cake I created yesterday.  When I put it all together it still felt as though something was missing...

Thankfully, my husband, the "occasional golfer" suggested a couple sand traps.  That seemed to do the trick.

Tractor Birthday Cake

I was asked by a friend of mine if I could create a tractor birthday cake for her 3 year old son.  This was something I had never done before, but was so excited to take on the challenge and I am so glad I did!

The birthday boy loved it!!

In the creative process of designing this cake I decided to have a little fun and posted different pieces of the cake as I was putting it together to see if some of my friends and family could guess what I was making.

Here was the first photo clue.

Here are some of the guesses that were made:
Cookie Monster with big cheeks
Tractor
Elmo
Train
Monster Truck

Here was photo clue #2.

The guesses that came back included:
Monster Truck
House
Guitar
Tug Boat
Thor's Sledge Hammer from the movie
Cross Walk Sign

Here is the final product.

This was such a fun cake to make!

First Communion Cake

This was a fun cake to make that captured both the symbolism of such an important occasion as well as some fun colors and accents.

This was a vanilla cake, filled with vanilla mouse and fresh strawberries, topped with buttercream frosting and fondant!

Happy Mother's Day

I had the honor of making a bit of chocolate heaven this week in honor of Mother's Day.

**Thank you for the wonderful photos Mrs. Kempf:)

Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate...  The best part of these was the chocolate ganache filling! Mmmm.

A Musical Birthday

This was a special music inspired birthday cake.  I incorporated the piano keys in bright colors along with musical notes for our little friend James.  He and his family enjoyed requesting their favorite colored keys to eat.

Star Wars Cupcakes

These were such a big hit for young and old alike!!

I made these for my friend's son and he certainly was the star for a day when he shared these with his friends at school.

Glad I could help make his birthday extra special!

Spring is in the Air...

Here are some chick cupcakes I created for a baby shower a couple of weeks ago.
The birds nest idea was from the shower recipient.

These had to be made in several steps, but came out great.  I have seen a couple different variations of this cupcake in the past.

Probably the most exciting part of this project was getting to display these cupcakes on the wonderful stand my amazing husband put together for me.  What could be a better display for bird nests?

I quick reminder of why I do what I do!!

Just when things get a bit challenging or I feel as though I am feeling the force of the "dark side", I remember how very blessed I am to have this bunch of super heroes at my back!

I don't know how they do it, but they keep it real.

They keep me grounded, yet lift me up all at the same time!

Calling all Civil War buffs...

I often am asked why I enjoy working with fondant when decorating cakes and I always say, "because the possibilities for me to tap into my creative side are endless with fondant."  When asked if I would be able to create a civil war themed birthday cake I gladly accepted the challenge.

I enjoyed getting the opportunity to work with a bit of gold dusting powder on the buckle and buttons on this hat cake.
This cake was created for someone who is an active participant in civil war reenactment.
He loved the cake!
Like cheeseburgers?  How about cake?
Why not put the two together and see what you can come up with?!

This was a fun cake to create for a friend's co-worker who loves cheeseburgers!
He was totally shocked by his birthday surprise.

It was fun putting this whole cake together!  I loved creating everything from the bun and burger, to the cheese and lettuce.

It was so much fun!!
This was the first cake I actually hand painted.
